New Veridian Feature: Built-in Tutorial for Collection Users

Written by Admin | Oct 2, 2025 10:39:15 PM

A guided tour for first-time users! Discover Veridian’s new built-in tutorial, designed to help everyone—from researchers to casual readers—navigate with ease.

We dedicate significant time and care to developing, testing, and refining the Veridian interface to make it as intuitive and user-friendly as possible, ensuring researchers, students, and casual visitors can navigate collections with confidence.

That said, not everyone arrives at a collection with the same digital confidence. For digital natives, common cues and shortcuts feel second nature—but for others who aren’t online as often, these patterns may not be so obvious.

That’s why we’ve developed a built-in tutorial module. This new feature launches automatically for every first-time visitor as a pop-up, guiding them through the viewport interface and helping them make the most of their experience from the very start. Of course, there is the option to exit the tutorial at any point.

The tutorial is designed to help users quickly get comfortable with a Veridian collection’s key features—such as maximizing the viewport, moving between issues, and zooming in or out.

The tutorial also highlights a valuable shortcut: right-clicking (or long-pressing on mobile) on an article. This unlocks several helpful options, including clipping the article, copying its link, and—if enabled for your collection—correcting the page text.

Users can replay the tutorial at any time by selecting it in the viewport menu.

The tutorial module is gradually being rolled out to all Veridian collections. In the meantime, if you’d like to see it in action, please visit Colorado Historic Newspapers, Vassar College Digital Newspaper & Magazine Archive, or The Brown and White Lehigh University’s student newspaper archive.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this new feature.
